SLIDESHOW: Miners day at Wits

Mining Engineering Students at Wits celebrated Miners day on the First of this month. They were commemorating miners who died in the Wits Basin in the 1940s as well as those who were killed by Police in 2012 in Marikana. The also celebrated the profession and some of the cultures that developed within it such as the Funigalore which was a common medium of communication between miners who came from all parts of the African continent. These are some of the pictures I took which captured the energy of the day. The put together in a movie by a nifty app on my Xperia Z1.
